One of Yorkshire’s most famous pubs is heading north and bringing a taste of its much-loved pub grub to Newcastle’s St James’ STACK.
The Tan Hill Inn, which holds the title of the UK’s highest pub at 1,732ft above sea level in Swaledale, has opened its first outlet outside its Yorkshire home as it expands its offering into street food.
The historic inn, which dates back more than 300 years, is known for its traditional pub food as well as its starring roles in films, TV shows and adverts, including Vera, Jane Eyre and Top gear. It’s also a popular stop for walkers and outdoor enthusiasts exploring the edge of the Yorkshire Dales.
Now, Newcastle foodies can get a taste of the Tan Hill Inn experience without making the journey across the northern Pennines.
Its new STACK outlet serves some of the pub’s signature dishes, including its Yorkshire pudding wraps, traditional pies, and fish and chips.
Owner, Andrew Hields, said: “Owning a pub with as much history and as well known as the Tan Hill Inn comes with a level of responsibility. And that includes ensuring that it is able to survive in an ever-challenging hospitality climate, particularly given the increasing overheads on site.
“Expanding the Tan Hill Inn experience beyond its Yorkshire location helps us ensure its survival and we are very grateful to STACK for the opportunity to be part of their exciting concept.”
And for STACK, the arrival of such a well-known Yorkshire name adds another option to its growing line-up of street food traders.
The Tan Hill Inn outlet is now open at St James’ STACK in Newcastle.
