Skate Island roller rink

It’s time to get your skates on, as a giant roller skating rink and food and drink village is opening at Newcastle Racecourse this spring.

Skate Island will be open for eight weeks from 2nd April 2026, every Thursday to Sunday.

The experience is being organised by the racecourse in partnership with EVNT Inspirations, which is responsible for other popular city centre events like Paddy Fest and Newcastle Christmas Village.

Skate Island is promising something for everyone. It will host student nights every Thursday, themed events on Fridays, and family-friendly sessions on Saturday mornings from 9am until noon. From noon onwards the clock will be turned back for Retro Roller, described as a fully immersive disco roller experience where skaters will be encouraged to dress up. Sundays will be geared towards families, where youngsters will be able to come along from 9am until 9pm.

For a 90-minute roll skating slot, prices will start from £7.50 for the family events, £10 for the student night and £15 for Retro Roller, plus a booking fee.

Stuart Nurse, a co-director of EVNT Inspirations, said:  “We’re pulling out all of the stops to offer a really amazing experience and bring back the heyday of roller disco.”
