Small rabbits and a Snowdog search for their forever homes

Fans of the Peter Rabbit: Tales on the Tyne trail have another chance to take home a piece of the artwork, with five small Peter Rabbit sculptures set to go under the hammer in Newcastle this month.

The individually decorated sculptures will be auctioned at Newcastle Civic Centre on Tuesday 13th October, following the trail’s Farewell Event on 10th and 11th October.

Measuring just 86cm high, these cute rabbits were created specifically as collectable mementos of this summer’s Peter Rabbit trail, which saw larger sculptures appear across Newcastle and North Tyneside in aid of St Oswald’s Hospice. (I loved spotting these across the city – you can see a few that I captured on camera over on my Instagram here.)

Among the lots is Hop on the Tyne, by David Maguire, celebrating the North East’s footballing passion, while his second sculpture, Amora, is decorated in shimmering hearts.

Beachcombing with Peter, by Daniel J. Weatheritt, takes inspiration from the artist’s love of exploring Northumberland’s beaches, while Peter Rabbit, by Julia Stafford, pays homage to Beatrix Potter’s much-loved character.

The fifth sculpture, Ruby Rabbit, by Natalie Radcliffe, was commissioned to mark 40 years of care at St Oswald’s Hospice and was also sponsored by another beloved North East name, Greggs.

There will also be an extra special guest at the auction: a Snowdog created by Steve Johnson to mark the 10th anniversary of St Oswald’s OG art trail – the Great North Snowdogs.

The sculptures can be viewed at the Peter Rabbit: Tales on the Tyne Farewell Event, giving would-be bidders the opportunity to see them first-hand before the auction takes place.
