The Market Place
The Market Place in Morpeth is an independent cafe serving a selection of light bites and brunch dishes, and it’s become one of my firm favourites in recent months.

As one of Sandyford’s most popular eateries, Aidan’s Kitchen oozes that relaxed neighbourhood vibe.
Choose from a half or full stack of pancakes with blueberry compote and maple butter, or dulce de leche, chopped bananas, Chantilly cream and chocolate shavings. Streaky bacon is also available as a tasty add-on.
True to its name, this cute cafe in Great Park has the dreamiest of settings, with pops of pastels all around.
It serves a variety of pancakes, with classic toppings such as maple syrup and berries, Nutella and strawberries, and banana with toffee sauce. Or, if you want to go all-out, order the sweet grazer board featuring pancakes, French toast, croissants, berries, yoghurt topped with granola, and three dipping sauces. Heaven!

You can build your very own pancake stack here, with a wide variety of sweet and savoury toppings to choose from, featuring everything from blueberries, ice cream and peanut butter to sausage and confit tomato.
Sunday Coffee & Kitchen opened on Pudding Chare in Newcastle city centre last year. It’s very pink and Instagram-worthy inside, and the dishes almost look too pretty to eat!
It has one of the best selections of pancakes I’ve ever come across, with lots of scrummy combinations – think sticky toffee, apple crumble, and cinnamon roll. You can also build your own stack. Plus, choose from regular or gluten-free buckwheat pancakes.
This cosy spot in Ponteland is such a chilled and inviting space, and feels a bit like home from home.
On the menu, you’ll find fluffy American style pancakes available in stacks of two or four. Some of the combos include streaky bacon and maple syrup, and chocolate deluxe with brownie and crunchy pieces, Nutella and vanilla cream.
