Five places to grab a top lunch in Newcastle when the clock is ticking!

If, like me, you work in Newcastle city centre, you’re probably visiting the same lunch spots over and over again. But, there’s only so many times you can eat the same ham and cheese sarnie!

Of course, time is of the essence when you have to get back to your office or co-working space. So, to give you some fresh ideas on where to go, I’ve rounded up five places where the food is not just delicious and filling, but it’s served speedily, too.

Kato

Kato is a pan-Asian eatery on Saville Row and it serves a variety of rice bowls, sushi and noodle dishes. The portions are huge and the price point is around £6-£7, making it such great value.

For me, this is hands down the best place to go for a chicken katsu curry (at any time of the day), outdoing any fancy restaurant in the city centre.

Square

The clue is in the name; Square on Market Street serves deep, square-shaped Detroit-style pizzas by the slice and full pie.

The Pep Talk pizza, consisting of a three cheese blend, double pepperoni, slow cooked red sauce, pecorino romano, whipped ricotta flowers, chilli flakes, hot honey and fresh basil is delish, and the hot honey ‘crust buddie dip’ is something else.

FED's Chicken

FED’s is the place to go if you love fried chicken and it’s just one of the many great food joints inside the Grainger Market.

It serves a selection of hot sandwiches, tenders and wings coated in your choice of sauce, including sticky bbq, ranch, hot honey, buffalo or Nashville hot oil. The batter is so crispy and incredibly moreish – be prepared to get stuck in!

Tasty by Greggs

I’d put money on Greggs already being one of your go-to destinations on your lunch break, but why not upgrade your experience by visiting its uber-cool cafe in Primark on Northumberland Street?

Polish off your usual Greggs’ favourites amidst its eye-poppingly bright surroundings. Eating a sausage roll will never feel so glam!

I Scream for Pizza

I Scream for Pizza serves delicious thin and crispy New York-style pizzas, available by the slice or the full 14 or 20 inches. You’ll also find a selection of ice cream on the menu, all made in-house.

The eatery boasts a prime spot on Newcastle’s Quayside, which means you can devour your food while admiring the best views of the Tyne and Millennium Bridges.
