St Oswald's knitted crafts

St Oswald’s Hospice is calling on local knitters and crafters to help create handmade items for its upcoming Peter Rabbit™: Tales on the Tyne art trail.

The trail, which runs from 15th July to 14th September 2026, will feature 43 large and 53 small sculptures of Beatrix Potter’s beloved character displayed across landmarks in Newcastle and North Tyneside.

This year’s theme is inspired by nature, gardens and the countryside, with organisers encouraging people to make everything from knitted woodland animals and tote bags to key-rings and fabric accessories to help raise funds for the hospice.

Due to licensing restrictions, donations cannot directly replicate Peter Rabbit or other Beatrix Potter characters, but there’s still plenty of room for creativity.

Danielle Harvey, Fundraising Manager at St Oswald’s Hospice, said: “Beatrix Potter had a deep love of nature and the countryside, and we’d love to see that reflected in the handmade items people create. Items can be knitted, sewn, felted or even painted – we’d encourage people to get as creative as possible!”

All donated items will carry a ‘Made with love in aid of St Oswald’s Hospice’ message. They will be sold during the trail, with all proceeds supporting hospice patients and their families.

Crafters are encouraged to submit their creations by 15th July ahead of the trail launch, although items will be accepted throughout the event. Items can be dropped into the hospice on Regent Avenue in Newcastle.
