Relax and reset at Breamish Valley Spa in Northumberland
Share
Affordable, tranquil and beautifully designed, Breamish Valley Spa is the Northumberland hideaway wellness lovers need to know about.
If you follow Newcastle Sparkles, you’ll know that I love a good spa day. From the Dolomites and Lake Garda to Catalonia and Chamonix, I’ve enjoyed R&R in a variety of dreamy, get-away-from-it-all settings – the kind you linger over on your Instagram feed.
But it’s not just a holiday pastime; closer to home, I’m an avid spa-goer who’s visited numerous spas across the north of England and Scotland.
One of my biggest grumbles is how expensive spa days cost here in the UK compared to other parts of Europe, which also tend to offer far better facilities. So, when I find a local spa that combines excellent facilities with great value for money, I definitely want to shout about it!
Enter Breamish Valley Spa – a gorgeous hideaway in Northumberland that’s surprisingly affordable.
A hidden spa in Northumberland
I would describe Breamish Valley as a petite but perfectly formed spa with all the main facilities you could want from your next wellness break.
It’s located near Alnwick, roughly a 50-minute drive from Newcastle, so it’s far enough away to make it feel like you’re embarking on a proper mini escape.
Small but equipped with excellent facilities
There’s plenty to reinvigorate your senses, whatever your spa vibe.
Indoors, you can take a leisurely swim in the heated pool or retreat into the jacuzzi tucked away in the corner.
If you’re looking for a moment of calm, you’ll also find a variety of quiet relaxation areas featuring curved loungers that mould into your body for ultimate comfort.
The bubbling outdoor hot tub is the place to unwind and soothe tired muscles, and this is unquestionably one of the spa’s most desirable spots.
There’s also a sizeable Finnish sauna overlooking the spa garden, alongside an aromatic steam room where you can cleanse and detox your body. And if you’re brave enough, there’s an ice bath for harnessing the benefits of cold-water therapy, providing an instant mood boost.
Fun fact: this is also where you’ll find Northumberland’s only private flotation therapy experience.
Indulgent refreshments
Of course, no spa trip would be complete without a little indulgence, and Breamish Valley delivers on that front too.
On the menu, expect a tempting selection of smoothies, spritzes and iced lattes alongside treats like brownies and a charcuterie board.
Relaxing on the outdoor swing with a rose spritz in hand was pure bliss.
Why Breamish offers great value
As I mentioned earlier, the spa offers good value for money, with experiences startingfrom just £35 per person for two hours of spa access, including towels and flip flops. Robes are also available to hire for £5.
Treatments range from full body massages and hot stones to body polishes and facials, all reasonably priced, too.
If you’d like to make the most of your visit, be sure to pop into The Bosk – the on-site restaurant and wine bar with a polished yet rustic feel. Breamish Valley also boasts a variety of cottages, roundhouses and a B&B, meaning you can easily turn your spa visit into a countryside escape and soak up the beauty of Northumberland. What’s not to love?
