Whether it’s brekkie, brunch or a sweet treat you’re after – here are 5 of the best cafes to visit in Gosforth, one of Newcastle’s most popular suburbs.
Koru
This leafy hideaway on Salters Road is actually a pizza joint, but it also doubles up as a relaxing daytime hangout too, serving an assortment of light bites, cakes and hot drinks.
It’s a cosy spot, with plants dotted all around and a mish mash of furniture creating a homely, lived in vibe. It’s definitely in keeping with the ‘peaceful pizza’ ambience the eatery is going for!
Alongside its fantastic selection of pizzas, you’ll find firm favourites such as panini sandwiches, salads, dough balls, focaccia, bruschetta, jacket potatoes and flatbreads.
Set back from Gosforth High Street, Cafe 1901 is a bright, spacious eatery and creative space that’s open seven days a week.
Popular with young families, the cafe has plenty to tempt you on its menu. Highlights include breakfast butties with dinky hash brown bites; brioche crammed with a Block & Bottle sausage patty and bacon served with smoked applewood cheese, bacon jam, omelette and chipotle jam; and avo smash served with feta, dukkah, rocket, apple reduction and dehydrated raspberries (pictured below).
Bonus; their breakfast and lunch menus are served all day.
Gosforth Traders describes itself as a neighbourhood cafe and delicatessen. Tucked along Salters Road, it’s just a short walk from Gosforth High Street.
Expect lots of scrummy cakes, traybakes and pastries alongside a selection of freshly made sandwiches, pies, and cheese and meat boards. You can also indulge in afternoon tea on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Drinks-wise, you can choose from artisan coffees, hot chocolates, iced drinks, smoothies and cocktails.
You’ll also find a ‘cellar’ stocked with premium spirits, wine and craft beers, which you can crack open in the cafe there and then, or purchase for a cosy night in.
Etto is the definition of a hidden gem, located inside Gosforth Shopping Centre. But don’t be put off by this seemingly lacklustre location, as the cafe’s on-trend, au naturale interior was made for the Insta crowd.
Pancakes, smoked salmon bagels and chicken pesto ciabattas are just some of the plates of deliciousness you’ll find on the menu.
The cafe also boasts an outdoor terrace that overlooks Gosforth Central Park – the perfect view while enjoying your cuppa!
Situated on the High Street, this cafe is easy to miss as the windows always seem to be steamed up whenever I walk past!
Retreating inside, you’ll find a minimal yet stylishly decorated cafe. It’s no wonder it made National Geographic’s top 13 breakfast spots in the UK!
On the menu, you’ll find Hummus eggs, granola and sourdough toasties alongside more inventive creations – the French toast banana bread with Greek yoghurt, almonds, berry compote and bacon is DELISH (yes, the caps are necessary!).
Baby Grey is open Wednesday through to Sunday and serves breakfast from 8.30am to 11.45am, with lunch available between 12-3pm.
